Make a workflow in the add-in editor

If you want to automate your (mail) campaigns, or send automatically a mail or message at an anniversary or other event you can use Workflows to schedule this. The Workflows add in editor is an easy drag and drop system, to make a normally complex process as easy as possible.

Get into the workflow editor
  1. When you are in the Customer Data Platform app, you can find Workflows in the left navigation menu. You’ll get in the overview screen.
  2. Here you can find your current existing Workflows.
  3. Here you can see how many times the workflow is activated since it was made.
  4. Here you can see if the Workflow is still active or on pause.
  5. On the three dots, you can edit your Workflow. When you want to edit your Workflow you will get in the same screen as if you want to add a workflow.
  6. If you want to make a new workflow with the add in editor press the Add in editor button to make a new workflow.

How to make a workflow 2
  1. The name of the Workflow.
  2. The triggers: the workflow gets activated by certain events that triggers the workflow to start. This can be events such as a new profile is added to a segment, or someone’s birthday. The triggers and steps editor works with an easy drag and drop.
  3. The steps: when the workflow is activated, certain steps must be installed. This can be direct steps, such as Sending an Email. This can also be wait steps, so to wait 1 day after the event has happened and then Send the Email. You can also make wait Until steps, which can also sent before a certain Event is going to happen.
  4. The settings of the triggers and steps, here you can adjust and customize the triggers and steps. This will be explained later by trigger and by step.
  5. Important: To make the workflow carry out the right steps in the right order you have to connect them with the dotted lines. You can easy drag them from the blue points to each other. You have to connect the bottom blue dot with a top blue dot of your next step.
  6. The exclamation mark show that the step or trigger settings are not right yet, and needs adjustment before the workflow can be deployed. If you press on the bin you will remove the step or trigger.
  7. If the workflow is completed you can save it by pressing on the Save button. It will be clickable if the workflow is completed. In this example the last step needs adjustment before it can be deployed.


The following steps are made to explain the settings of a couple of the most common triggers. A workflow can only have one trigger, but multiple steps. The image below and explanation steps are for the triggers. The first four steps are for the anniversary trigger.

How to make a trigger
  1. Here you have to select the segment for which you want to make the workflow. You can find your available segments at the segments tab. If you want to know more about how to make a segment please click here.

  2. If applicable you can select which consent must be on in the segment you selected.

  3. Here you can select the time the trigger gets activated on the date of the anniversary.

  4. Here you can select the kind of anniversary and which property of the data belongs to it. You can choose for Date of Birth of Date created on, so for instance if you want to celebrate that he is a client for exactly a year.

The image and explanation below are especially for the event added trigger. This trigger gets activated when an event is happening. This is not segment related, but event related, so everyone who does a certain event, gets in the Workflow.

Event added trigger
  1. Here you can select the event type. In this setting all the event types that can be found in data are able to select here.
  2. (Optional) It is optional to filter on a specific property of the event. As example, the event of the image is the event for a pre-registration. At the pre-registration the question is asked what the favorite stage is.
  3. (Optional) If you checked the box at step 2, here you can select how to filter, and on what property of the event to filter. In the example given at step 2, here you can say the property: stage, has to equals the value of step 4.
  4. (Optional) Here you have to give in the value where to filter on of step 3. For example the property Stage has to be: Main.

To conclude the above steps a short summary of the Event trigger examples is given. The workflow gets triggered when someone registers for the event: Pre-register demo and if he finds the Main as his favorite stage. If someone register and another stage is his favorite, this workflow does not gets activated.


The following steps are about the Steps, the steps are explaining how to setup a trigger and the trigger always gets followed by one or multiple steps. Now we are going to explain the Steps which follow in the same order of the designed Workflow.

First we start with the Wait step, you’ll use this to wait a certain period (hours or days) until you want to go to the next Step.

Set up the wait step
  1. Here you can set the duration of how long the step have to wait before it goes to the next step.
  2. Here you can select the Unit of duration, you can choose between hours and days.

The following Steps are for the Email Step settings. You can use this to sent an automatic Email via Email campaigns.

Set-up for email Step
  1. In this field you have to select the property which contains the emailaddress.
  2. In this field you have to select the Triggered campaign which you have made in Email Campaigns. For more information about Triggered Email campaigns click here.
  3. (Optional) This step is applicable if your Triggered email campaigns contains personalization Embeds, such as names, Country, address and Events. This has to be designed at the triggered Email campaigns. If applicable you have to select the embedded properties for the personalization details. At the Default field, you can give in a value if the property is missing.
